Shannon met Ernest while she was working in Rwanda. They live together in Canada now, but wanted their wedding to honour both families here and in Africa. Besides the bride and groom, one particular guest of honour was Shannon’s grandmother, who will turn 100 this fall! Their celebration was held on a friend’s property in Aurora, and included Rwandan food in the dinner buffet, and beautiful performances by a troupe of Rwandan dancers. (BONUS: There’s a video clip of the dancers at the bottom of this post. Scroll down to view it.) From the lakeside ceremony led by Shannon’s uncle to the after-dinner tutorials of the dance troupe, everything was wonderful; and I’m so happy to have been asked to be part of such a special day.
Here’s the video of the dancers. They have bells tied to their ankles to create their own music as they perform (so be sure to turn up your sound).
